Artist Statement

My goal is to create fine art photographs that capture and communicate to the viewer the experience of being there. It is often expected that a photograph should be a true visual representation of the subject matter. I believe this limits the ability of a photograph to express the emotion of the moment and therefore utilize the tools of digital photography and software to best recreate what I felt when recording the image. The concept behind fine art photography is not to record the event as is, such as in journalism or documentary photography. But rather to strike a balance between the technical, artistic, and emotional aspects to create an image that allows the viewer to see through the eyes of the photographer. I am not simply trying to show you what something looks like, but to show you what it feels like. To allow you to experience the moment long after it has faded into history.
